Doodle 025 - Let me fall

I spent most of today outside... I needed a haircut and once I was roaming the streets like the crazy person I am I decided I should get some sun, so I forced myself to be out in the world longer than usual.

After returning home I decided it would be nice to show you guys how I draw. At first I thought of doing a video of the whole process from me sitting down to draw to a finished doodle... well... I tried and the video ended up being nearly 30 mins, that is, with me going back and forth between lines/doodles etc, and quite frankly, it isn't very exciting to see me try to figure things out.

So I tried again and made this video (don't worry, it has no sound, I was too rushed to add anything lol):

It is just me, drawing a quick doodle.

I refined it a bit more after that:

Kitteh! - Graphite and mechanical pencil on plain Moleskine notebook. Aprox 10 mins

I started the next sketch while listening to the song "Let me fall" from the Cirque du Soleil's Quidam soundtrack, so it makes sense that this is what I came up with. I must point out, this was done without any reference, I managed to figure out the basics of the foreshortening, so I was glad I didn't mess it up too badly.

Let Me Fall - Graphite and mechanical pencil on plain Moleskine notebook. Aprox 20 mins.

I think I've seen that perspective executed with your skill about five times, and they were all in museums. Wonderful angle to choose! Looking at your posts and doodles has given a new brightness to my days.

Loved the video! You have had a very productive week. My Mom isn't on the internet, but she loves for me to describe your sketches and the stories behind them.

Makes me want to go try the trapeze! Love how graceful she looks, even at rest.

Thank you for sharing the video -- I have no real drawing experience, so found it helpful to watch you lightly sketch in the picture, then fine-tune it.

I'm very much enjoying following your blog -- found my way here from Epbot =).

Dear Saudade,

I saw your title and thought, "She likes Josh Groban! She is even cooler than I thought." But Cirque du Soleil also does much for your cred....

Coincidentally - last week I watched an old film, The Dark Tower (1943) which is about a circus troupe that runs into a dark, controlling stranger who quickly begins to take over the show. It featured some impressive acts, and made me think of Cirque. One act was a clown who does a foolish, but extremely skillful rope walking act. But the star was a woman who did high-wire and trapeze acts - so there we are, back to your figure sketch. Which as always, I love.

Take care.

@Anonym: Thank you so much for the lovely compliment. I am very happy my drawings make you happy.

@Victoria: If I weren't so hopelessly uncoordinated I would love to give the trapeze a whirl too.

@wrenandstitchy: So glad you liked it, I thought it would be rather boring and silly, so I am happy to know it was, at least, a bit entertaining.

@ania: LOL Yay cred! I have heard of The Dark Tower before, I will have to check it out.

Hi, I enjoyed watching you draw and reading some of your writing about yourself and experience. Are you drawing today? If not why not? I draw every day, well most days anyway. It's a wonderful thing to do. So I'm looking forward to seeing more of your drawings. I subscribed so I'll be expecting notifications each day telling me you've done another beautiful drawing:) Well, if you miss a day that's ok, just start again the next day, that's what I do:) Rob G & the Splashducks:)
