This reminds me of Tamora Pierce -- have you ever read her? She write YA fantasy that is FANTASTIC. Anyway, in one of her books in the Protector of the Small series, the main character gets a griffin and when the parents finally get it back, they are less than thrilled with how unruly it is. This picture perfectly describes that chapter of that book!
