Yesterday I went on a rampage and bought several copic marker sets using coupons and sales.
I have never used Copic markers before, but I decided to jump right in and try to figure them out. I checked the Copic Blog and I found the very perfect way to try my hand at the markers, they are hosting a contest at the moment, this means I get to try the markers and try to get some prizes.
They provided the contestants with 2 line drawings to choose from. I am going to try and color both (you can enter up to 4 times, 2 times per drawing).
I got sooo caught up with my new tools and trying to teach myself how to blend them properly, that I was at it at least 3 hours! Yeah, I was having too much fun.
I really need to get some dinner and hit the hay, so I decided to stop for now and come back to it later.
The original line artwork was done by Anne Chihiro Takogawa.
And now, for my coloring attempt:
Line Drawing by Anne Chihiro Takogawa, coloring by Saudade - Copic markers on plain copy paper. Aprox 3 hours. |
I am very happy I took the leap into a medium I had never tried before, the markers are wonderful, they aren't magic, but they allow a great deal of blending and manipulation, can't wait to get better and then color in my own illustrations.
I am excited!

That looks amazing!
I love the shading on the flying ribbons and her sweater collar. I've been reading a lot about Copics, so I'll be back to see what else you do with them.
Once you are used to using real copics, this is a nice addition to Sketch Book, and it's free!

That looks very well done, Saudade.
Also - with the weather being lovely and in the 70's, I keep saying to myself, "It's the end of the world as we know it, [but] I feel fine."
Take care.
Wow! You really brought her to life! This looks great. :)
What a great choice of color! The orange sweater just POPS off the screen!
You are so talented! I love following your blog (even though this is my first comment)! I check out your artwork every day.
Wow, she looks fantastic! The colors are so pretty! I look forward to seeing you use them more. And congrats on branching out and trying something new! :) You're already doing great!
She looks fantastic! I love the shading and colors. Fantastic job trying out a new medium!
I LOVE the colors you have used! I hope you win!
And thank you for finally giving me the answer to the question I've always had in the back of my mind - what are so many artists using to color their art? (I knew it wasn't watercolors.) I may need to save up and find some coupons to get some.
