Doodle 023 - Bears and birds and dragons, oh my!

Well, I guess all that chasing my inspiration around worked out today.
I actually woke up on time and managed to fit a work out very early in the morning. Whenever I exercise like I should, my brain seems to work much better, overall if I exercise early in the morning before the rest of the day wears me down.

The first doodle happened pretty easily, I was at the office working on some projects, when suddenly, I had this image stuck in my head. Before it disappeared I grabbed the first thing that was nearby and doodled this:

"A little birdy told me" - Ballpoint pen on standard size post-it note. Aprox 3 minutes.
It took virtually no time, and it is basically a bear having lunch (alphabet soup), while a robin tells him the latest news (gossip) from around the forest.

After I got home I went back to drawing, first a quick warm-up doodle:

Light as Air - Graphite and mechanical pencil on plain Moleskine notebook. Aprox 5 minutes.
Nothing of significance, just something airy, light, sort of like a wind sprite of sorts singing.

Finally I drew inspiration from real-life sea dragons and created an slightly more fantastic version:

Actual Weedy Sea Dragon - via dive gallery
Fantastic Sea Dragon - Graphite and mechanical pencil on plain Moleskine notebook. Aprox 20 mins.
Thanks for all the encouragement guys. I have the best cheerleaders pulling for me.

  1. Love your "scribbles!"

I ended up buying a couple of those Kuru-Toga mechanical pencils and the stubby lead-holder thingie that you'd posted about earlier. Love 'em! And now *I'm* "scribbling" more, too!

Thank YOU for the inspiration to get back into drawing!

  3. Gorgeous. That's really all I've got. I too draw - mostly portraits - but I wish I could capture the movement of the lines like you do. Just breath taking:)

  4. @IMQTPI: Yay! Happy to hear you are drawing more and that my reviews were helpful.

    @Michelle: :-D awesome!

@Victoria: That would be a pretty cool sight!

@Lauren: Thanks, I am trying to make my drawings more dynamic, they can get very stiff, so keeping loose and fluid is my goal at the moment.

Sometimes I venture out into the world, this means I don't get access to the comments section of the blog, which in turn means I can't moderate them and approve them.

Yes, I read and approve every message left here, so don't worry if your message doesn't show up right away, it means I haven't read it yet! I'll always get it when I get back to the internets (proper ones anyway), I will make sure to check.

Thanks so much for any messages, I love receiving them!
